In Suweida, Shahba and al-Kanawat

Our friends Khaled Sharaf and his charming wife Angela hosted us for a day in Jabal al-Arab where we enjoyed their company, visited the great archeological sites of the mountain, toured the museums of Shahba and Suweida, visited the highest religious authority there (Sheikh-Akl al-Druz), had a sumptuous lunch at Dr. Kamal Sharaf’s house, and finally, had afternoon tea and sweets at the As’aads (Angela’s parents) house in Suweida.

The trip was not only limited to friends and history. While there, we visited a breathtakingly beautiful hill were sculptors from around the world gathered in Sie’ to produce stunning sculptured works using the famous basalt stone of Jabal al-Arab.
